Dago Benavidez

Artist Bio

I was born in the small town of Lockney Texas on the panhandle. My love of colors and solitude was inspired by wildflowers in bloom in the prairies as far as the eye could see. My family moved to Oregon in the early 1960s. I studied art under Vick Rivera, an artist that illustrated the human body for Encyclopedia Britannica and Robert Bibler at Chemeketa Community College where I graduated and went on to Portland State university studying art the whole time.
My art has been featured in several National Magazines and TV programs. and numerous venues such as the Oregon State Capitol, Bush Barn Art Cante, Oregon State Fair, La Galeria de La Raza in San Francisco, and most recently I was honored to be the first to ever display at the National Historic Museum of Kam Wah Chung in John Day. My art has been presented to Pulitzer prize winning writer Anna Quinlan and former Governor Ted Kulangoski for their work advocating for children by the National CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Organization.

Art Show Beginning November 1st

At Blackfish Cafe, we support local artists.  For decades we have been a platform for photographers, painters, sculptors and assemblers to show their art in a venue that is not a typical gallery.  The walls of our New American restaurant are a great place for our guests to enjoy the art while they visit.  Our staff is knowledgeable and helps sell the art when patrons would like to take it home.  Please join us for some delicious food and drink, a great art show and warm environment.  We can't wait to see you.

We are sorry to announce that we have closed for our retirement.  Thank you to everyone for the last 25 years....what a ride it's been!
